Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “ıvır zıvır sindirilebilirler”) tanımlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine ilişkilanmasıyla oluşan güdük polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lafıntısı ile diğeri arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” yahut peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (yahut çok adetda polipeptit alt birimi çitndırır). Ana üstelik peptitlerin güdük, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi esnasında her amino hamız, gayrı amino asite daim, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle ilişkilanır. Polipeptid konstrüksiyonsına yeğinlan amino asitlerin her biri konstrüksiyonya peptid ilişkilarıyla ilişkilanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu esnasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir sutaş çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Ortalama bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Malum en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda bulunan “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine yeğinlan amino asitlere lafıntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lafıntı, bağ yapmamış, erkin amino grubu çitndırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin gayrı ucundaki erkin α-karboksil grubu olan lafıntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
